Description & facts
Bodegas Palacios Remondo is a family owned winery established in 1948 by Jose Palacios Remondo, 5th generation of a family with a long involvement with wines for more than 150 years. This was also the childhood home of Alvaro Palacios, the acclaimed Spanish winemaker, he learnt his craft here and actually, after his father death in 2000, is now officially winemaker too in the family’s home estate in Rioja. The Winery is located within the Oriental Rioja in the municipal district of Alfaro. The Estate owns 100 ha. of vines which are located in a large and steep hill, south-east facing at an altitude of 550 meters above sea level and made up of clay/lime soils with very poor organic matter. The varieties planted are Tempranillo, Garnacha, Mazuelo and Graciano, with just 8 ha. planted with the white grape variety Viura. From the vintage 2017, the wine is organically farmed.
