Maison Géraldine Louise

France, Burgundy, Côte Chalonnaise

Wine artist Géraldine Louise is a brave, enthusiastic, and sparkling woman who makes top cuvées in Burgundy with a lot of know-how. The winery is located in the medieval village of Rosey, between Givry and Buxy, on the outskirts of Côte Chalonnaise. Maison Géraldine Louise is a so-called micro-négoce, so from most of her wines she only makes a few barrels. It is abundantly clear that her focus is on quality instead of quantity.

Because she grew up in Buxy and worked at Château Cary Potet for a long time, she knows how to find the better vineyards of the southern Côte Chalonnaise. Moreover, she has many contacts to be able to get good grapes. Essential, because good wine naturally starts with healthy grapes of high quality. Therefore, the wines from Géraldine are all beautifully balanced.

Winemaker & owner

Maison Géraldine Louise

Winemaker Géraldine Lochet worked for nine years at Château Cary Potet in Buxy after obtaining her BTS diploma in viticulture and oenology. After this she made the switch to the renowned Domaine Philippe Colin from Chassagne-Montrachet. After twenty years of making wine for others, in 2016 she decided to start her own trading house under the name Maison Géraldine Louise.

She now makes seven different white wines, including two from the Côte de Beaune. Since 2019, she also owns two plots facing south with Aligoté sticks from 1945 on a bottom of sand and granite. She is not only a talented winemaker, but she also has lots of experience in viticulture. For example, she teaches at the CFPPA in Beaune, an education for people who did not grow up in a winemaking family.

“A female winemaker with passion and many years of experience.”

WHITE WINE

Givry Champ Pourot

The grapes come from a vineyard located in the village of Givry and lie on an eastern oriented slope of about 240 meters altitude. The wine undergoes a spontaneous fermentation without added yeasts and undergoes malolactic fermentation in oak barrels. The wine matures for 10 months in varied sizes of wooden barrels. Only 1,260 bottles and thirty magnums are made of this wine.

Beautiful straw yellow color with golden tones. The wine is juicy, elegant and has light oak tones. With a slightly creamy texture in the mouth, the wine also has a fine bitterness and a good length. The wine will pair well with creamy dishes such as a fish in cream sauce or a Brie de Meaux.

WHITE WINE

Montagny 1er Cru Les Chaniots

Les Chaniots is located in the village of Jully-lès-Buxy, which is part of the AOP Montagny. The vineyard borders the territory of the village of Montagny and is surrounded on three sides by the Premiers Crus Chazelle and Les Coères. The vineyard is located at an average height of 275 meters and the slope is perfectly oriented to the east. The mighty Abbey of Cluny once had possessions in Les Chaniots. The name refers to the oak trees that once stood here. After the alcoholic- and malolactic fermentation, the wine matures for about 10 months in an oak barrel. Only 1 barrel is made resulting in 450 bottles and 30 magnums of wine.

Beautiful straw yellow color with golden tones. The wine is juicy with lots of fruit and has well-integrated toast aromas. The start is pleasant, round, and creamy and brings a lot of juicy fruit. The toasting notes are well integrated. There is a beautiful and intense length in this wine. The wine will pair well with heavier dishes such as salmon and poultry but can also go well with goat cheeses such as a Crottin du Morvan.
