Santa Barbara

Santa Barbara winery is located 25km from the Adriatic Sea and is located on the hills that run between the Misa and Nevola rivers. Here winemaker Stefano Antonucci and a team of professionals works in the winery and vineyards every day, fueled by passion, determination and a pinch of creativity so that the grapes maintain their beauty and express the quality of the land.

The ideas, the technology and respect for the land are the basis on which they have decided to build the company: improving the quality of the raw materials “grapes”, taking into consideration the tradition and the history of the land , applying all along new concepts of production with a sharp eye to the health of the vineyards. From the start of its activity, the winery had two aims: to revive indigenous grape varieties, Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi, Montepulciano and Lacrima di Morro d’Alba to create wines to appeal to international taste which were original and had great character such as Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon.

“Wine is an aroma, a taste and an art that has coursed through his veins since childhood.”

Winemaker & owner

Santa Barbara

Santa Barbara is the result of passion that grew day after day and could no longer be relegated to be a mere pastime. Winemaker Stefano Antonucci left his job in the banking industry at 1994 to follow his dream. He came back to Barbara, his hometown, in the heart of the Marche region where he had learned to love the land, to know and respect its secrets, its rhythms and it’s products. It was there where he had grown up and he set forth on his challenging goal: to make wine that would appeal to wine lovers. Many has called Stefano a “visionary and eclectic wine-maker, continually striving for stylish perfection”.

The vineyards are between 25 and 40 years old and cover an area of 45hectares of land stretching from the rolling hills of the municipality of Barbara, across Serra de Conti, Montecarotto, Arcevia up to Morro D’Alba and Cupramontana. The particularity of these areas lies in the clay and water-rich soils that cover on a strip of land bordered by the Adriatic Sea to the East and the Apennines to the west.

Santa Barbara

Verdicchio La Vaglie Cast di Jesi DOC

This wine was created in 1992 with the intention of breaking away from the framework of a traditional wine. At the same time, by experimenting and taking a risk, this wine is able to give merit to the great history of winemaking in the Marches region. To celebrate 20 years of production, in 2012 the winery launched five colorful wine labels alongside the traditional white label. This was a stylistic choice that we still continue today distinguishing the wine and satisfying the ever-increasing enthusiasm we find in the fans of Le Vaglie.

Le Vaglie is very sure and will pop your glass! Bright pale yellow with a slight tinge of gold. With a rich scent of flowers, tropical fruits and fresh apple. In the beginning it is a fresh basic wine, but the wine has filling. Nice balance with fruit, fresh acidity and salty taste that make it appear pure and lively. The salty flavors linger in the aftertaste and the bitterness with almonds. The end is very pleasant.

Marche Rosso IGT

“This wine was created to meet the challenge of uniting international grape varieties with our indigenous Montepulciano. Making a wine and seeing it grow well makes us happy and gives a great sense of satisfaction. I want to share this satisfaction with our partners and friends who over the years have helped both me and my winery to grow” (Stefano Antonucci)

The color is intense ruby red with garnet reflections. The nose has intense berry fruit with the persistent presence of cherry’s. The taste has intense matured fruit, mainly with raspberry and blackcurrant. The aftertaste is long and intense.
