Tenuta di Ghizzano

ITALY, Ghizzano

Ghizzano is a history-rich hamlet in Tuscany, deep in the rolling hills between the city of Pisa and de medieval town of San Gimignano. Near enough to the Mediterranean Sea to enjoy the mild sea breeze, and without extreme temperatures or great risk of springtime frosts. All the estate vineyards are planted on the sun-kissed hillsides, in the fissile-rich pliocene soils of Tuscany.

Winemaker & owner

Ginevra Venerosi Pesciolini

“ The Venerosi Pesciolini family settled in the Colline Pisane area in the 14th century. For 26 generations, the family has been growing vines, olive trees, and cereals with respect for the terroir. Since 1996, Countess Ginevra Venerosi Pesciolini has run the estate. Her vision was to bring her family’s historic estate into the 21st century by introducing organic and sustainable farming practices. In 2003, Ginevra launched the farm’s first biodynamic conversion; a radical idea in the Tuscan winemaking circles.”

“I consider myself a ‘natural winemaker’. In other words, I try to allow my wines to express their terroir as purely and as honestly as possible.”

Our aim is to create wines that reflect the style, elegance and rich fragrances of the surrounding rolling hills surrounding, with respect for each expression. In 2003, they started their journey towards ‘natural’ organic farming, eliminating all use of synthetic pesticides, herbicides, fungicides and chemical fertilisers. In 2006, they moved into biodynamic agriculture.

  • Heritage: 6 centuries of the family Venerosi-Pesciolini estate

  • Uniue terroir of mediterrenean sea breeze, sun kissed hills and fossile rich soils
